In this edition of Service My Car, we look at servicing the Mercedes-Benz’s foray into the compact car market, the A200.
As always, be sure to familiarise yourself with your A200’s service intervals and check the manual for next service date.
The 2018-2019 Mercedes-Benz A200 uses a Ryco R2772P Oil Filter, an A2012 Air Filter, and an RCA420C Activated Carbon Cabin Air Filter. When it comes to the best quality service products, Ryco has you covered for all European cars.
To begin the oil and filter change, first you’ll need to get the car in the air. Once you’re underneath the car, remove the undertray and the associated covers to gain access to the drain plug and oil filter housing.
It’s a good idea to start with the engine warm, this will help the oil drain faster. Be aware that this Mercedes model has a specific sump plug tool that will be required for the service. After removing the sump plug, let the oil drain into a drain pan. You can then move on to the oil filter while the oil drains.
In order to remove the old oil filter, you will need to undo the cap on the oil filter housing. Once removed, you will be able to pull the old oil filter cartridge out.
From there, give the filter housing a good clean and fit the new Ryco Oil Filter cartridge with the provided o-ring.
Then, refit the oil filter housing cap, the sump plug with a new washer, and the undertray.
From there, you can do your initial oil fill using a Ryco Flexi Funnel to help avoid any mess. The 1.3L Turbo Petrol engine takes about 5.1 litres of oil.
After filling the correct amount, enter the service menu on the vehicle’s multimedia system and check that the oil is at its maximum level. You will then need a scan tool to reset the vehicle service reminder. Once complete, start it up and check for leaks.
Moving onto the air filter, you will first need to pull the ECU cover off and unclip the mounting tabs on the ECU. From there, move the ECU aside, making sure to leave all connectors intact.
From there, move the ECU aside, making sure to leave all connectors intact. This will give you access to the intake airbox.
Next, undo the screws for the airbox lid and remove the clip that connects the intake piping to the airbox. You can then lift the lid away, and pull out the old filter.
From there, give the airbox a quick clean, install the new Ryco Air Filter, making sure that the seal is seated correctly within the airbox.
Then, re-install the airbox lid and ECU in reverse order.
To replace the cabin filter, locate the cabin filter housing lid underneath the dash and take out the old cabin filter.
Once you’ve cleared the area of any debris, refit the new Ryco Activated Carbon Cabin Air Filter, making sure that it is facing in the correct airflow direction as indicated on the filter, and reinstall the cabin filter housing lid.
Ryco Activated Carbon Cabin Air Filters utilise electrostatically charged PP fibres to reduce the amount of harmful contaminants and respirable particles that can enter the cabin via the vehicle’s HVAC system and deliver a cleaner breathing environment for vehicle passengers. They also work to provide allergy protection from particles such as pollens, fungus spores, dirt and bacteria.
From there, the last step is to go for a road test and make sure everything’s in good working order. As always, we recommend having your local mechanic service your Mercedes-Benz A200.
