In this article, we look at servicing one of Mazda’s most popular SUV offerings – the CX-5. Be sure to consult the vehicle’s service manual to check for its next service date and familiarise yourself with its service intervals. As always, we recommend taking your Mazda CX-5 to your local mechanic for servicing.

When you’re up for your next service, make sure you’ve got everything you need before you begin. In this article, we cover replacing the engine oil and oil filter, air filter, and cabin air filter. To find out what part numbers you need, visit the Ryco Filters website and grab the details before heading down to your local parts store.

This 2017 Mazda CX-5 uses a Ryco Z926 Oil Filter, an A1785 Air Filter, and an RCA275M MicroShield Cabin Air Filter. Ryco has you covered with the best quality service products come service time.

To begin, raise the vehicle and place your drain pan underneath. Then, remove the access panel in the splash tray to gain access to the sump plug and oil filter.

From there, undo the sump plug and drain the oil. Doing this with the engine still warm will help the oil drain faster.

While the oil drains, remove the old oil filter and clean the oil filter mating surface.

Apply a layer of new oil to the Ryco Oil Filter’s rubber gasket and fit the new oil filter.

Once the oil has finished draining, refit the sump plug with a new washer and reinstall the access panel. Next, do the initial oil fill using a Ryco Flexi Funnel to prevent any mess. The 2.5L Petrol engine takes about 4.5 litres of oil. Once filled, start the vehicle and check for any leaks.

To replace the air filter, start by undoing the airbox clips then lift the lid away from the airbox. The old air filter can then be removed.

Give the airbox a quick clean then fit the new Ryco Air Filter, making sure that the seal is seated correctly within the airbox.

To gain access to the cabin air filter, drop the glovebox lid away from the dashboard.

Then, remove the filter housing lid and take out the old cabin air filter.

Clear the area of any debris then fit the new Ryco N99 MicroShield Cabin Air Filter, ensuring that it’s facing in the correct airflow direction as indicated on the filter.

From there, the filter housing lid and glovebox components can be reinstalled in reverse order. The MicroShield is made of N99 medical grade media and can stop viral and bacterial contaminants as well as other minuscule pollutants from making their way inside the vehicle by filtering out particles down to .3 micron.

From there, the vehicle can be road-tested to make sure that everything’s in good working order.

Once the service is complete, fit a Ryco Service Sticker to note when the vehicle is due for its next service.
