Hyundai iMax/iLoad Service My Car

The Hyundai iMax and iLoad have long proven themselves as a dependable offering in both the commercial vehicle and people mover market. In this edition of Service My Car, we look at how to service Hyundai’s popular van.

When it comes to keeping your iMax/iLoad maintained, it’s important to familiarise yourself with its service intervals. The oils and filters in your Van have a limited life span and if neglected, could lead to a costly trip to the mechanic and critical downtime for your work vehicle.

Before getting into the service, you’ll need to make sure you’ve got everything you need. Here, we look at the 2008-2017 petrol 2.4L Hyundai iMax/iLoad which uses the Ryco RSK46C Filter Service Kit. Starting with the oil and filter change, it’s a good idea to begin the job with the engine warm, this will help the oil drain faster. Once you’ve got the car in the air, undo the sump plug and drain the oil into a drain pan.

While you wait for the oil to finish draining, you can move on to the oil filter. If your oil filter is difficult to remove, Ryco offers removal tools to suit a wide range of oil filters.

Once you’ve removed the oil filter, clean the mounting surface, apply fresh oil to the o-ring on the new Ryco Oil Filter, and thread the filter on. Be sure to only tighten the oil filter about a quarter turn past hand-tight. Once complete, replace the sump plug washer, refit the sump plug, and set the vehicle back down onto the ground.

Next, do your initial oil fill using the Ryco Flexi Funnel to help avoid any mess. The 2.4L Petrol Engine takes about 5.1L litres of oil. After filling the correct amount and checking the dipstick, start it up and check for leaks.

To replace the air filter, undo the clips on the airbox lid, lift the lid away, and remove the old filter. From there, give the airbox a quick clean, install the new Ryco Air Filter, making sure that the seal is seated correctly within the airbox, and refit the airbox lid.

Moving onto the cabin filter, you will first need to gain access by removing the glovebox compartment. Then, remove the cabin filter housing lid and take out the two old cabin filters, one after the other.

Once you’ve cleared the area of any debris, refit the new Ryco Cabin Air Filter, making sure that it is facing in the correct airflow direction as indicated on the filter.

From there, you can reinstall the cabin filter housing lid and glovebox components in reverse order. Ryco Cabin Air Filters deliver a cleaner breathing environment for vehicle passengers, reducing the amount of harmful contaminants and respirable particles that can enter the cabin via the vehicle’s HVAC system.
