The Ford Mustang is nothing short of an automotive icon. With continuous development over the past six decades, the Mustang continues to set the standard for muscle cars and sports cars alike – a testament to the iconic pony car’s enduring appeal. To keep your Mustang performing at its best for years to come, regular servicing is essential.
Be sure to find out your Mustang’s next service date by checking the vehicle’s service manual and familiarising yourself with its service intervals. As always, we recommend taking your Mustang to your local mechanic for servicing.
In this Service My Car Article, we look at replacing the Mustang’s engine oil and oil filter, air filter, and cabin air filter. To find out what part numbers you need, visit the Ryco Filters website and grab the details before heading down to your local parts store.
This Ford Mustang GT uses a Ryco Z928ST SynTec Oil Filter, an A1942 Air Filter, and an RCA359P Cabin Air Filter. For the best quality service products, be sure to ask for Ryco.
To begin, raise the vehicle and place your drain pan underneath. Then, undo the sump plug and drain the oil. We recommend doing this with the engine still warm to help the oil drain faster.
While the oil drains, remove the old oil filter and clean the oil filter mating surface. Then, apply a layer of fresh oil to the Ryco SynTec Oil Filter’s rubber gasket and fit the new oil filter to the engine.
Ryco SynTec Oil Filters are perfect for performance applications - capable of filtering out 99.8% of contaminants down to 20 micron whilst providing low restriction and high efficiency.
Once the oil has drained, refit the sump plug with a new washer. From there, do the initial oil fill using a Ryco Flexi Funnel to avoid any mess.
The 5.0L V8 Petrol engine in 2014-2017 models takes about 7.6L of oil. For 2017-2023 models, 9.5L of oil is required. Once complete, start the engine and check for any leaks.
For the air filter replacement, undo the airbox fasteners and lift the lid away from the airbox. Then, remove the old air filter and give the airbox a good clean to remove any debris.
From there, you can fit the new Ryco Air Filter, ensuring that the seal is seated correctly within the airbox.
To replace the cabin air filter, start by dropping the glovebox like so to reveal the filter housing. From there, remove the filter housing door and take the old cabin air filter out.
Clear the area of debris then insert the new Ryco Cabin Air Filter with it facing in the correct airflow direction as indicated on the filter.
From there, fit the new filter housing lid and reinstall the glovebox.
Once the service is complete, the vehicle can be road-tested to ensure that everything is in good working order.
Be sure to fit a Ryco Service Sticker to note when the vehicle is due for its next service.
