The opening round of the 2025 Supercars Championship brought Tickford Racing up to New South Wales for the 2025 Thrifty Sydney 500. This round would see the field take on Sydney Motorsport Park’s Gardner GP Circuit for Race 1, 2, and 3. Cam Waters and Thomas Randle would take their respective places behind the wheel the No. 6 Monster Energy Ford Mustang and No.55 Castrol Racing Ford Mustang for what would prove to be a history-making first round for Tickford Racing.

The action kicked off early with a test day during the week to help get the drivers reacquainted with their cars. The field would then hit the track again on Friday afternoon for a practice session that saw Thomas Randle claim the 9th fastest lap with a 1m30.710s best time and Cam Waters go 7th fastest with a best lap of 1m30.968s.

Race 2 would keep the good times rolling for Tickford with Cam Waters claiming yet another victory after one of the most incredible race finishes in recent memory. After losing position during the race, Cam Waters would make up seven seconds to find himself behind race leader, Broc Feeney. With four laps to go, the two drivers would collide which would then lead to a redress attempt from Waters. Will Brown would then join his teammate in the fray, setting up a battle to the finish between Cam and the two Red Bull cars which would ultimately end in Cam out-dragging Feeney on the main straight, claiming P1 inches before the finish line for the win. Thomas Randle would also end Race 2 firmly in the top ten with a P6 race result.

Sunday would kick off with Race 3 Qualifying which would see Cam Waters take another provisional pole thanks to a 1m29.209s best lap. Thomas Randle would just miss out on Sunday’s Top Ten Shootout, claiming a P11 qualifying result thanks to a 1m29.528s best lap. Cam Waters would then go on to take pole position for Race 3 in the shootout after a 1m29.611s best lap.

Cam Waters would also make history, becoming only the second driver in Supercars history to win all three races in a weekend, claim fastest lap bonus points, and all available points in the round.

In the team standings, we see Tickford Racing end the season opener in 1st place with a total of 497 points.

The second of the 2025 Supercars Championship will see the series head to Victoria next month for the 2025 Melbourne SuperSprint, running from March 13-16.
