The tenth round of the 2024 Supercars Championship brought Tickford Racing back to Bathurst, NSW for the legendary Repco Bathurst 1000. The iconic 23-corner, 6.2km-long goliath that is Mt Panorama hosted a plethora of motorsports festivities before Sunday’s legendary 161-lap test of endurance. This round saw Cam Waters joined by James Moffat to pilot the No. 6 Monster Energy Ford Mustang with Thomas Randle and Tyler Everingham in the No.55 Castrol Racing Ford Mustang.
Thursday with kick off with the first practice session of the race weekend. Cam Waters and Thomas Randle would start the weekend off strong with Top Ten results right out of the gate. Cam would claim the 2nd fastest lap of the session with a best time of 2m07.331s with Thomas Randle going 5th fastest with a 2m07.503s best lap. The Tickford Racing co-drivers would take the wheel for Practice 2 later in the day with Tyler Everingham going 7th fastest in the Castrol Racing Mustang thanks to a 2m08.162s best lap and James Moffat claiming 12th with a best time of 2m08.700s in the session.
Friday would begin with Practice 3 and would see the Castrol Racing Mustang take the 2nd fastest lap amongst the pack thanks to a best time of 2m06.846. The Monster Energy Mustang would come 26th with the team mainly using the session to collect data. Another practice session would take place in the afternoon with Cam Waters going 2nd fastest with a 2m06.346s best lap. Meanwhile, Thomas Randle and Tyler Everingham would claim 17th in the session after a best time of 2m07.278s.
Qualifying for Race 20 would round out Friday’s activities with Cam Waters earning himself a spot in Saturday’s Top Ten Shootout thanks to a P2 Qualifying result. Thomas Randle would meanwhile claim a P19 start on the grid for Sunday’s Race 20.
The co-drivers would kick off Saturday with another practice session which saw James Moffat go 2nd fastest in the Monster Energy Mustang thanks to a 2m07.519s best lap and Tyler Everingham take the Castrol Racing Mustang to 15th with a best time of 2m08.023s. The final practice session of the weekend would take place shortly afterwards with both Tickford Racing cars finding themselves back in the Top Ten. The Castrol Racing Mustang would take the 4th fastest lap of the session thanks to a 2m06.695s best lap with the Monster Energy Mustang following close behind in 6th after a 2m06.767s best lap.
The Top Ten Shootout would cap off Saturday with Cam Waters claiming a P2 start on the grid for Sunday’s big race after a blistering 2m05.643s fastest lap.
After a quick warm-up session to begin Sunday’s festivities, the 2024 Bathurst 1000 would kick away in the late morning. Cam Waters and Thomas Randle would tackle the first stints in their respective cars before a driver change on Lap 27. James Moffat and Tyler Everingham would fight hard up until the midway point of the race which saw another driver change with Cam Waters and Thomas Randle taking on the remaining 74 laps. Cam Waters would ultimately cross the chequered flag in P4 with Thomas Randle sending the Castrol Racing Mustang home to a P11 finish – an impressive eight places up from his starting position.
With the tenth round of the series in the rear-view, we see Cam Waters remain in 4th place in the standings with 2074 points with Thomas Randle staying at 8th with 1543 points. In the team standings, we see Tickford Racing hold on to their 2nd place on the ladder with a total of 3617 points.
The eleventh round of the 2024 Supercars Championship will see the series head to Queensland for the 2024 Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500, running from October 25th – 27th.
