Tech. Tip - Ford Ranger / Mazda BT-50 3.2L - Oil Filter Service

31 March 2016

When the vehicle has the oil drained for an extended amount of time, the oil drains not only from the sump, but internally from the pump assembly. This is due to the unique design of the variable-flow oil pump, using vane elements, allows the pump to control the flow rate at varied engine speeds.

If the engine oil and filter are serviced and the oil is left to drain longer than 10 minutes, the oil pump may fail to prime and leave the engine in a critical no lubrication situation. (Download pdf for more info)
